Myopia (nearsightedness)

If you suffer from myopia, distant objects appear blurred to you. The elements of the optical system of the eye (cornea, crystalline lens, vitreous body) are not exactly matched to each other. The eye is too long and light rays are brought to a focus in front of the retina – the refractive power of your cornea is too high. The imaged formed on the retina is blurred. A nearsighted person sees near objects sharply, the light rays reflected by these objects converge on the retina.

Myopia can be corrected by glasses or contact lenses. In many cases, the myopia can also be treated by surgery. (See also
