Presbyopia (impairment of vision with advancing years)

The elasticity of the crystalline lens diminishes after a certain age. It can therefore no longer adjust itself sufficiently, and nearby objects are not seen clearly anymore. This phenomenon is called presbyopia, and it affects all human beings from the age of about 45 onwards. This is when one starts needing glasses to read.

There are several possibilities to treat presbyopia by surgery. (See also „Treatments“, especially the new treatment „the KAMRA implant“.)

Normal vision Myopia Hyperopia Astigmatism Presbyopia Special lenses to correct / avoid residual defects Suitability for refractive surgery
