Risks

Visual defects have been corrected by surgery for many years. The first implantations of artificial lenses were already performed in the forties. The development of the laser techniques goes back to the sixties, the LASIK method is applied since 1991, Femto-Lasik since 2003. Millions of patients throughout the world put their trust in these methods. Today they are well established treatments of ophthalmology.

With the procedures used today in refractive surgery the risks are extremely limited. Although the specialized literature mentions complications, these are extremely rare. We thoroughly discuss the individual risk each patient may incur during our preliminary examinations.

Using the most modern devices for the examination, we establish an exact optometric and medical picture that allows us to determine the nature of your visual defect, the characteristics of your eyes and to ascertain if and under what conditions it will be possible to perform a surgical treatment in your case. The results of these determinations will also serve as a basis for a later treatment in our eye center. Dr. Aus der Au and his team will discuss with you the most appropriate treatment in your case as soon as the results of the examination have been evaluated. But they will also take the time necessary to answer all your questions and queries. And you will be informed on the exact course of the treatment and of the risks implied and will be provided with detailed information (informed consent form, data sheet on the precautions to take and rules to follow after an operation, etc.).
