Dr. Philipp Bänninger has completed his studies of human medicine in Zurich, with sojourns at the renowned University of London, at the University of Michigan (USA) and the Harvard Medical School (USA). After having completed his doctorate and acquired valuable experiences in general surgery and emergency medicine during training periods in India, South Africa and Zurich, Dr. Bänninger, who is also an enthusiastic amateur photographer, started a specialist formation in ophthalmology at the University Eye Clinic of Lucerne, successfully concluded in 2013. During a one-year training in corneal diseases at the University of Newcastle (UK), he worked with international experts in stem cell transplantation to treat accidental acid burns of the eye.

Since February 2012, Dr. Philipp Bänninger has resumed work at the University Eye Clinic Lucerne, pursuing a specialisation in ophthalmic surgery, with the main focus on corneal, cataract and refractive surgery. He also acts as instructor for resident physicians at that center, directs clinical research projects, and lectures regularly at national and international congresses. Since October 2013, he works in addition as a staff physician at the Eye Center Dr. Aus der Au to increase his expertise in innovative refractive surgery techniques. As a practicing eye doctor, he considers himself privileged to be able to draw on a large spectrum of diagnostic and therapeutic methods for the benefit of his patients. He thinks that optimal professional and personal patient care is essential, and in that regard the competent and devoted team of the Eye Center offers him the best possible conditions.
